Battles - Sweetie & Shag (The Field Remix)

For the first entry in their four-part 12” remix series of Gloss Drop, Battles have enlisted the help of Gui Boratto and The Field for Dross Glop 1.

For “Sweetie & Shag”, The Field rips out almost all of the original elements and leaves the footprints of a pulsing drone in its place.

DJ Kaos - Hard to Earn (Solomun Remix)

If you’re into slow burns, turn your ear this way. A little over eight minutes of relaxed, smoldering beauty.

Title: Time of the Assassins (Steve Moore Remix) Artist: Professor Genius 0 plays

If you like your music electronic, instrumental, and epic, give this track a try.

I assumed Professor Genius lived inside of a brown, metallic spaceship in a galaxy made of colors we don’t even know about (“brown” is just our closest reference point), but apparently he just hangs out in Jersey City.

“Time of the Assassins” will be included on the Professor’s upcoming album, HASSAN, which is being released on L.I.E.S.

This is a remix by Steve Moore, probably most well-known for playing bass in Zombi, and it is super.

The Holy Ghost! remix of “Somebody to Love Me” is definitely in the running for my favorite track of the moment.

This is a fantastic track. So fantastic, in fact, that I’ve listened to it on repeat for what seems like days on end. Okay, so it has only been twenty minutes, which comes out to only four listens in a row, but you get the point.

Groundislava is a 20 year-old dude from Venice, CA. His dad animated & directed A-Ha’s music video for “Take on Me”, which is still brilliant. The kid also seems to like video games.

Clive Tanaka is a mysterious man/woman/wildebeest who made an incredible album that I’ve posted about before. He worked with a Brazilian group called su orquesta on said album and beaunoise is a member of said group.

Together, they all made one incredible track. I can’t stop listening. The bass line is spectacular. The percussion is four-on-the-floor goodness. The ‘Speak and Spell’ background vocals are just so perfect.

Title: Photojournalist (Star Slinger Remix) Artist: Small Black 31 plays

Small Black - Photojournalist (Star Slinger Remix)

Small Black hit 2009 like an M-1000 - loud and recognizable, but quick to disappear.  When “Despicable Dogs” hit the internet, many took notice.  Their EP came and went, as did a split with Washed Out.

This isn’t to say they aren’t good or memorable, because they were.  Unfortunately, they just didn’t have that many completed tracks.

Last week, a new song off of the upcoming LP, New Chain, came out and it is fantastic.  However, that’s getting posted like mad, so instead of sharing what’s already everywhere, here’s an excellent remix by Star Slinger. Less haze (although still plenty) and more dance.

God that was a stale/boring write-up.  I’m so sorry.

Nab as many Star Slinger tracks as you can/want here and follow him on good ‘ole Tumblr.

UPDATE: My lack of intelligence forced me to upload the original Small Black song, which I explicitly stated I would not.  This has been fixed.

Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix)

Two bands I REALLY like do work on a song I REALLY love.  And guess what?  It comes out pretty cool and VERY different.
